History, Affiliations and Rankings

Established in 1817, the University of Michigan is a public university located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in the USA which was founded by an act of Michigan state and is the oldest institute in Michigan. The campus shifted to Ann Arbor in 1837 to a 40-acres site which is currently known as Central Campus. Since the university was established in Ann Arbor, the institution has expanded to include a few of the 500 buildings spread all over the city. Today, the University has more than 50,000 student enrollments and has $1.58 billion worth of research expenditures. The University of Michigan has academic affiliations with the Association of American Universities, Conceive Design Implement Operate and the Universities Research Association. It is also among the acclaimed sea-grant and space-grant universities in the US. The University of Michigan ranks #23 in QS World University Rankings 2022 and #24th in World University Rankings 2022 by Times Higher Education. Furthermore, the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings 2022 places the university at #19 globally. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

University of Michigan's main campus is situated in the heart of Ann Arbor and is known to host a wide range of events and activities. There are numerous mesmerizing landmarks near the campus, like Michigan Stadium, Burton Memorial Tower, and many others. Along with the main campus, the University of Michigan has two more campuses in Dearborn and Flint. The Ann Arbor campus has four main areas: the North, Central, Medical, and South campuses. The infrastructure includes more than 500 main buildings, spanning an area of more than 860 acres. The Central and South Campus areas are contiguous, while the North Campus area is excluded from them, primarily by the Huron River. There is also a leased area in buildings spread throughout the city, a lot of space is occupied by communities affiliated with the University of Michigan Health System. The university consists of 19 colleges that provide more than 280 Undergraduate degrees, 150 Postgraduate degrees, and 100 PhD degrees. Michigan has 9 professional schools: the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Ross School of Business, Medical School, Law School, Ford School of Public Policy, College of Pharmacy, School of Social Work, School of Public Health, and School of Dentistry. Having said that, the university is also ranked #23 by QS world rankings 2022 for its MBA programme and about 98% of students received job offers within 3 months.

Further, the University of Michigan has 3 Hospitals and 125+ Health Centers/Clinics, of which the University hospital has been named #1 Hospital in Michigan, and is also #1 for the Best Children’s Hospital in Michigan. The University has also been named among the top 5 Employers in the State 2021 by Crain’s Detroit Business. More than 640,000 alumni of the University of Michigan live and work worldwide.
